Rolling home becomes an interactive work of art: Tom & Catie (VANVAS)

Although it had been a dream of ours for quite sometime, we only officially chose vanlife about 8 months ago when Tom got a job in San Francisco and we began looking into our housing options. As you may know, the Bay Area is an absolutely beautiful place to live, but it's also notorious for it's insanely high cost of living. To make a long story short, we set our hearts and minds on a Freightliner Sprinter and Tom got to work with the build out. We've been living full time in the van for 4 months now and love it more every day.

Our vision of transforming our tiny living space into an ever-changing piece of art came almost as fluidly as the idea to trade a house for a van. We saw the white exterior as a space that was just asking to be filled. Tom creatively coined the term VANVAS as a hybrid of the words {van} and {canvas}. VANVAS is now the name of our van and we are connecting and collaborating each month with local artists to design temporary murals on the side of the van.

We chose ephemeral, or short-lived art to portray both that life itself is transient as well as to give us an opportunity to connect with many different people and share their stories through photography and video. Images and videos of the artwork are posted to social media with credit to the awesome muralists.

Since the project's launch in August, we have collaborated with two amazing artists and we're very interested in meeting and working with more!
